Counsellor & Psychotherapist in Hastings

About Andrew Colquhoun

My aim as your counsellor in Hastings is to give you back the freedom to choose how you want to live your life. By looking at the issues which might be troubling you in a safe and confidential space, we would be working together to help you make the changes which might help you to lead a more fulfilling life.

We all have feelings and thoughts about ourselves and others which have come from our past experiences. Often we are not aware of how those experiences are affecting the way we live now. As your counsellor and therapist, I would be helping you to understand those influences from the past, so that you can then use that understanding to find the freedom to choose to live differently.

Over the last 17 years since qualifying, I have had a wide range of client experience, including working with depression, anxiety, phobias, relationships, life changes, personal development, stress, and low self-esteem. I adopt an integrative approach to my work with clients and draw on the techniques of cognitive behavioural therapy when that might be helpful.

For all of those 17 years, I also served in a voluntary capacity with a counselling charity in Hastings, having previously worked with other voluntary agencies in Sussex and Kent.

I am a qualified counsellor, holding both a Post-Graduate Diploma in Counselling and Psychotherapy from Roehampton University, one of the UK’s leading colleges in this field, and a Certificate in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy.

I am an accredited member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy and operate to their code of ethics. I am also registered as an independent counsellor with the UK Register of Counsellors/Psychotherapists. I hold professional practice insurance and review my practice regularly with an accredited supervisor.

I meet clients face-to face in the Isabel Blackman Centre in Hastings Old Town, but can also work remotely by platforms such as WhatsApp and Facetime. I can also offer home visits for those who might be physically infirm.

You can find more details about my work and see articles which I have posted by searching at counselling-directory.org.uk.

Fees

I would suggest that we had an initial discussion of up to 20 minutes. This initial session would be free and would help us to decide how we could work together.

If you then felt that you wanted to start counselling with me, we would aim to have weekly sessions of 50 minutes each. My normal fees are £50 per session, and £60 for couples. I can offer reduced rates for trainee counsellors.
